This 65-foot double-ended ketch was built in Norway in 1934 and has undergone comprehensive reconstruction since 2009. The hull was cold-molded with three layers of counter-oriented marine plywood coated in epoxy, with yellow cedar planking on the exterior. Approximately 90 percent of the structure was rebuilt, including new fuel tanks, a reinforced collision bulkhead meeting USCG requirements, and a pilothouse addition. The deck was rebuilt with marine plywood and fiberglass, topped with Brazilian ipe hardwood, all fastened with naval bronze hardware. The bow stem and sprit were replaced with locally sourced oak, and steel reinforcement plates are installed every 18 inches to support the ribs.
Power comes from a single-cylinder Isuzu diesel engine installed in 2013. A 7-kilowatt Yamaha generator with approximately 100 hours of use supports the electrical systems. The boat carries 100 gallons of fresh water in two tanks, plus separate grey and black water holding tanks. Three house batteries, a cranking battery, and a genset battery support the inverter-charger system. All interior electrical wiring, breakers, and panels are new, with LED lighting throughout and 24-volt navigation lights.
The interior features Sapele wood joinery completed by a master carpenter. The galley is newly fitted with a microwave, gimbaled stove, copper sinks, cabinetry, freezer box, and separate refrigerator. Accommodations include two helm stations with B&G electronics, hydraulic steering, and a VHF radio. The rigging was designed by Gordon Laco and constructed almost entirely in Hempex, with all running and standing rigging replaced. The sail inventory dates to 2010 and has seen limited use. Original elements include the keel, mast, some ribs, and blocks, along with a hand windlass from Glasgow.
Safety and tender equipment include a Viking life raft certified in 2014 and recertified annually, and a 12-man Zodiac added in 2014 and recertified each year. An EPIRB is installed. The boat carries comprehensive USCG documentation and naval architect drawings from the rebuild.
