The 1979 Formosa 46 is a hand-laid fiberglass cutter designed for serious offshore cruising and extended liveaboard comfort. Her hull shows no reported blisters and has received recent bottom paint. The boat carries a full sail inventory including a triple-reefed main, roller-furling genoa, staysail, storm jib, and spinnaker with sock, supported by both electric and manual winches for anchor handling.
Below deck, the interior is finished throughout in golden teak with brass opening portlights and a teak cabin sole. The salon features a spacious dinette with hi-lo table that converts to a double berth, plus a full settee opposite, with excellent ventilation from large hatches and portlights. The galley is U-shaped and well-equipped with a double stainless steel sink, DC refrigerator, propane gimbaled stove and oven, and ample storage. The boat sleeps four: a forward cabin with a queen V-berth and ensuite head including shower, and an aft cabin with a king-size berth and private head. A dedicated navigation station serves as both chart table and shipboard office.
Power comes from an 85-horsepower Lehman Ford diesel engine with BorgWarner Velvet Drive transmission, backed by two fuel tanks totaling 130 gallons. A Yanmar diesel generator supports extensive 12V and 110V systems, including solar panels mounted on a radar arch. The boat features redundant anchoring systems: a 33-pound Bruce with 400 feet of chain and 100 feet of line on an electric windlass, plus a 66-pound Bruce with manual winch. Hurricane hydronic heating serves three zones, supplemented by a propane wall heater. Navigation and communications systems include a Furuno 24-mile radar, dual GPS and sounder units, dual VHF radios, and single-sideband and ham radio capability.
The center cockpit is protected by a custom hardtop dodger, and a custom sugar-scoop swim platform facilitates dinghy access and water boarding. The boat includes dinghy davits, a gas grill, and an electric anchor windlass with mechanical steering backup.
