This 1995 Alerion Herreshoff Rumerys is a 26-foot fiberglass sloop built to classic design principles established by Nathaniel Herreshoff's original 1912 Alerion. The boat combines traditional sailing qualities—graceful lines, stability, and ease of handling—with modern construction and equipment. The fiberglass hull and deck are complemented by mahogany cabin sides and teak decking, while aluminum spars, stainless steel standing rigging, and bronze chainplates make up the structural elements. A centerboard allows shallow-water sailing and easy trailering. The boat carries two sets of sails from UK Sails and achieves a PHRF rating of 213–238.
The cockpit is deep and spacious with teak coamings, and all control lines lead back to it for single-handed sailing. Below deck, the layout includes a V-berth for two, galley area with stove, storage, and a navigation station. A Harken roller-furling headsail foil enables modern sail handling, and the design features no backstay, allowing an unusually large mainsail compared to jib-dominated modern designs.
Electronics include a Garmin GPS and KVH wind and directional gauges. The electrical system comprises two group 24 batteries with a three-position switch, a six-breaker panel with volt-meter, and both electric (500 GPH) and manual bilge pumps. The hull received a fresh bottom paint in 2024. The yacht comes with a triad trailer and a 9-horsepower Yanmar diesel engine with a cruising speed of approximately 5 knots.
