The Caliber 40LRC is a 40-foot fiberglass sloop built with hand-laid lamination and solid construction throughout. A modified fin keel paired with a skeg-hung rudder delivers responsive handling and directional stability in heavy seas. The boat's substantial displacement and high ballast-to-displacement ratio provide stability in rough water, while integrated structural elements—including the keel, tanks, and sub-sole bonded into the hull grid—distribute loads evenly and eliminate external fastening points that can leak. The rudder assembly is particularly robust, with a welded steel core on a 1.5-inch solid stainless steel shaft supported by three bearings, housed within the boat to protect against corrosion. A structural skeg shields the entire rudder assembly from grounding damage. The hull-to-deck joint is sealed with polyurethane adhesive, co-polymer sealant, thru-bolted aluminum toe-rail, and stainless steel striker for exceptional strength and dryness.
The spacious cockpit is designed for shorthanded sailing, with all control lines and self-tailing winches led aft. A single-line auto-reefing system with cockpit controls simplifies mainsail handling. The extra-large wheel diameter accommodates a seated skipper with clear sight lines to the sails. Forward, a teak and stainless steel anchor platform simplifies ground tackle work. A boarding platform at the stern features a folding ladder and handheld shower.
Below, the boat sleeps four with a full forward cabin featuring an offset berth and a roomy separate head with shower enclosure, plus an aft stateroom with double berth and large hanging locker. The main salon is well lit and appointed in teak, with a twin-leaf dining table that folds for additional space. The aft head serves both the stateroom and salon, outfitted with pressurized hot and cold water and shower. The L-shaped galley includes a two-burner stove with oven, large icebox, twin sinks, and ample counter space. Fourteen opening portholes, seven overhead hatches, one solar fan, and two dorades provide excellent ventilation throughout.
Built with extended cruising in mind, the boat carries 230 gallons of fuel and 195 gallons of fresh water in dual tanks with separate filters for each, extending range and self-sufficiency far beyond her class. A 50-horsepower Yanmar diesel provides reliable auxiliary power.
