1934 Monk 50

This 1934 Monk 50 is a 50-foot classic motor yacht built by naval architect Ed Monk Sr. as his personal yacht. The wooden hull is powered by a rebuilt Ford Lehman 120 hp diesel engine that cruises at eight knots. The boat features a beam of 14 feet 3 inches and draws 3 feet 5 inches, making her manageable for extended cruising.

Below deck, the yacht accommodates two staterooms and an elegantly appointed salon finished throughout with polished woodwork and cabinetry. The master stateroom is located portside amidship with a queen berth and built-in storage. The guest cabin forward offers two single berths. The head includes an original cast iron bathtub and pedestal sink. The galley is spacious with a cast iron sink, original Dickinson Adriatic stove with stainless steel chimney, two refrigerators, and a 30-gallon hot water tank. The boat includes a dishwasher and clothes dryer.

Navigation and communication equipment comprises a Raymarine radar and AIS, Raymarine E80 GPS, VHF radio, compass, and barometer. Power comes from a diesel generator, gel-battery house bank, and 230V inverter. The engine room features a Bowtal heat exchanger, Leese-Neville alternator, new polished aluminum fuel tanks, and an air compressor system. The boat was extensively rewired in 2009 with all new wiring and the addition of bow thrusters.

Recent major work includes an interior refit in 2017 with new plumbing and electrical systems, and a comprehensive exterior restoration in 2021 including new deck planking, teak, custom insulated windows, new anchor and chain, and a fresh water wash-down system. The boat carries a wooden dinghy with outboard, two anchors, and a full winter cover. Known items requiring attention include salon carpeting, bronze fittings needing polish, and minor refinishing to the original bathtub and topside buffet.
