The Limburgia is a steel-hulled tugboat built in 1942 during the Dutch war years, representing characteristic Dutch shipbuilding of that era. At over 92 feet long and nearly 20 feet wide, she was purpose-built for heavy towing work on inland waterways, including commercial routes along the Rhine. Originally powered by a steam engine, the boat received a substantial modernization in 1963 when she was re-engined with a Brons 8ED 8-cylinder diesel engine producing 500 horsepower.
The diesel powerplant is noted for both its reliability and distinctive operational character, turning at 335 rpm. The robust construction and generous proportions reflect the working-vessel heritage typical of her class and period. Her design and engineering remain intact as a tangible example of mid-20th-century Dutch maritime construction.
