This 1946 Luders L-16 is a classic 26-foot racing sloop with a distinctive hot-molded mahogany hull built to exacting standards. The boat features a traditional wooden construction with five plies of mahogany laminate, a wooden mast, and a full suit of North sails including main, jib, spinnaker, and genoa in good serviceable condition.
The hull has undergone substantial restoration work across several decades. In the late 1990s and early 2000s, Elk Spar and Boat Shop completed a major restoration that included keel removal, hull inversion, veneer replacement and re-gluing, and fiberglassing to the waterline. Between 2013 and 2014, the keel was replaced, new bottom planking and mahogany veneers were installed, and the bottom was refiberglassed. Most recently, the hull was repainted inside and out, and the interior received new paint on all planking, under-deck surfaces, and deck beams.
Upgrades completed in 2020 include a Torqeedo Travel 1103C electric outboard motor mounted for easy deployment, new mahogany cockpit bench seats with under-seat storage, a new mahogany deck hatch for spinnaker launching, a reconfigured cockpit sole with a new Harken main sheet swivel cam base, below-deck storage shelves, and a cooler platform. The main bulkhead base was repaired with replaced plywood, and the hull received new paint in Epifanes Enamel with vinyl lettering. The boat is equipped with a boom tent and comes with fenders and lines.
The varnish and deck paint are noted as requiring attention. The boat has been stored on an outdoor lift.
