This 24-foot sloop was designed by Al Mason in 1944 and built by Joel J Johnson, a master craftsman known for his meticulous construction of this design. The Ostkust—Swedish for "East Coast"—combines Scandinavian folkboat elegance with American offshore integrity. The boat features a full keel, graceful sheer, and solid seaworthiness, built overbuilt for her size with the craftsmanship characteristic of mid-century New England boatbuilding.
The yacht carries a 10-horsepower Yanmar diesel auxiliary engine and is equipped with new sails installed in 2022 and 2023, along with an older main and jib. Navigation electronics include a B & G Zeus3 S 9" chart plotter with standard and forward scanning transducers, mounted in a varnished mahogany frame hinged in the companionway to preserve the boat's integrity.
Recent work includes extensive engine servicing completed in 2024, new group 27 batteries installed in 2024, topsides painted in 2025, spars varnished in 2024, and bottom painted in 2025. The hull was refastened below the waterline in 2020 by Brooklin Boat Yard. A VHF radio rounds out the core systems.
