1950 Monk Pilothouse

The Flamingo is a 1950 Monk Pilothouse, a 58-foot motor yacht built of Port Orford Cedar with steam-bent White Oak bottom, Red Cedar topsides, and solid Mahogany house and flybridge. Monel fasteners throughout, with canvas over Marine Ply decks and Oak rubstrakes. The construction is substantial and traditional. Twin Detroit 671 diesel engines produce 440 total horsepower, delivering 12 knots at full throttle with a maximum speed of 18 knots. The engines run on low hours—732 since the previous rebuild—and operate from a roomy, well-lit engine room featuring remote starting and fresh water wash-out systems, with full gratings over dry, oil-free bilges.

The interior showcases careful appointments and functional equipment. The cabin sole combines solid three-quarter-inch Brazilian Rosewood with White Oak overlay, complemented by Ubba Tubba Granite counters. The galley includes a five-burner Propane range, commercial microwave, and a 19-cubic-foot stainless refrigerator/freezer, alongside three hammered copper sinks and a hammered copper galley table. Living spaces feature a 42-inch HD screen and a 29-inch flat screen, while a Dickinson Propane heater and four wall heaters provide climate control. Air conditioning is installed.

Systems are comprehensive and redundant. Twin electric fresh water heads serve a 20-gallon water tank; dual Poly holding tanks handle waste. A 12-gallon hot water tank supplies the shower. Electrical capacity includes twin AGM battery banks and an inverter. Safety features encompass twin Halon automatic fire prevention systems plus seven fire extinguishers, six Rule automatic bilge pumps with float switches, and a manual Gusher pump. Navigation and anchoring equipment includes a heavy-duty electric windlass with 120 anchor and all-chain rode.

Deck and exterior features are detailed and robust. Twin helms with air shifters command Bronze steering struts and Monel shafts with drip-less seals. A stainless steel stern crane, walk-by bronze stanchions, and full handrails line the deck. The flybridge includes a barbecue, opening settees with table and cushions, and complete Sunbrella covers. Griffiths watertight fore deck hatch, stainless cowl vents on dorade boxes, USN Bronze dead lights, and eight Bronze opening ports provide ventilation and light. Original builder's blueprints and a 2021 survey are on board.
