1957 Dragon 29

Avalon is a 1957 International Dragon, a 29-foot wooden racing yacht with Olympic history. Built by Borresen and launched in 1958, she represented Canada at the 1972 Olympic Games in Kiel. The hull is planked in mahogany with teak decks and a Sitka spruce spar package, combining classic construction with modern performance capability.

Between 2015 and 2017, Avalon underwent comprehensive restoration by Woodwind Yachts. The mahogany hull, teak decks, and Sitka spruce mast and boom were all renewed and refinished. The standing and running rigging was fully updated, with all sheets and halyards led under deck to support singlehanded sailing. New Harken #8 winches were installed, and all deck hardware was replaced with modern fittings. The cabin, cockpit coamings, and covering boards were rebuilt in mahogany. A new bilge pump, battery, and charger were fitted, and the entire electrical system was rewired.

The sail inventory includes North Sails mainsail, jib, and Code Zero spinnaker. The boat is equipped with a fractional rig featuring a Sitka spruce mast and boom, single spreaders, jumper struts, and running backstays. A bracket accommodates an electric MinnKota outboard motor, with the motor stowed below deck. The full keel carries cast iron ballast.

Avalon comes with a custom tandem trailer featuring an extendable tongue and screw pads, plus docklines, fenders, safety equipment, and canvas covers for the jib and cockpit.
