1957 Historic Hitzler

The Polarfuchs is a 1957 steel-hulled icebreaker built by the German shipyard J.G. Hitzler. Originally designed as a working vessel for North Sea operations, this 105-foot trawler embodies substantial construction throughout, with a reinforced bow built to handle demanding conditions. The hull displaces approximately 350 tonnes and features a beam of 26 feet and draft of around 3.5 feet. Maximum speed reaches 16 knots, with a cruising speed of 12 knots.

Power comes from an Alpha/MAN V10 turbo engine producing 1,416 horsepower, installed during the 1980s and running well. Propulsion is managed through a four-blade variable-pitch propeller, a configuration typical of working vessels designed for precise maneuvering and reliability. The boat carries the original onboard instrumentation package, ready for reinstallation.
