Built at the storied Cheoy Lee Shipyard in Hong Kong in 1962, Isobar is a 45-foot sloop with a full keel and 12-foot beam, displacing 28,000 pounds. The hull is strip-planked Philippine mahogany with a monocoque wineglass cross-section, fitted with teak decks and a counter stern. Her design, lofted by a naval architect, draws inspiration from classic Sparkman & Stevens yachts, particularly the celebrated 52-foot yawl Dorade.
The rig is configured for offshore sailing with a 48-foot deck-stepped mast and 22-foot boom, carrying a low-aspect mainsail suited to the predominantly downwind passages typical of transoceanic voyages. The yacht is powered by a Yanmar auxiliary engine.
Isobar has been restored and maintained throughout her service life. Her fittings and systems reflect thoughtful engineering built into her original design.
