1938 Historic Barkhouse Custom 44 Yawl

Built in Nova Scotia in 1938, this 44-foot yawl combines classic lines with a comprehensive modern restoration completed in 2024. The hull was rebuilt using West System epoxy-saturated wood overlays to ensure soundness and watertightness, while fiberglass decks were added. The varnished mahogany cabin house, coaming, and cabin hatches showcase fine finishing work. All spars are new Selden units, and sails were recently built by Doyle. New running rigging, standing rigging, canvas covers, awning, and dodger were installed in 2024. Custom bronze hardware includes winches, blocks, bases, stanchions, and bow and stern pulpits throughout.

The interior features thoughtfully selected joinery in oak, mahogany, teak, holly, and ash, with ebony inlays in select locations. The cabin layout includes one cabin and one head. A single 55 hp Volvo diesel engine provides auxiliary power, with a maximum speed of 7.5 knots under power.

This yawl performs strongly under sail with its balanced rig and restored spars. The combination of period design and selective modern upgrades—structural work, new canvas, and rigging—positions the boat for extended cruising and continued sailing use.
