1963 Hinckley Bermuda 40

This 1963 Hinckley Bermuda 40 is a fiberglass yawl built with solid hand-laid construction and reinforced laminations in stress areas. The hull features a white Awlgripped finish with a red boottop and gold cove stripe; the bottom was recently peeled and epoxy barrier coated. The deck is white fiberglass set in a permanent hull-deck joint via flange, bolting, and fiberglassing. Exterior trim is varnished teak in very good condition, including toerails, coamings, handrails, and hatches. Bronze centerboard with worm gear operation, stainless steel pulpits, double lifelines with gates, and opening hatches over the main and forward cabins complete the deck layout.

The accommodations follow a six-berth layout with the starboard pilot berth converted to storage. The interior features varnished mahogany with white overhead and a teak-and-holly sole. The forward cabin has vee berths with shelving and drawers. The main salon includes pilot and transom berths on both sides, a varnished mahogany dining table with drop leaves between the starboard transom berths, and mahogany shelving throughout. The enclosed head has a recent West Marine toilet, stainless steel sink with hot and cold pressure water, and telephone shower. The galley aft includes a gimballed three-burner Shipmate propane stove and oven, stainless steel sink, and mahogany cabinetry. The nav station to starboard features a new 2022 Cool Blue refrigeration unit with lift-top access and chart storage.

Power comes from a 1986 Westerbeke 46-horsepower diesel with approximately 3,500 hours on the meter. New fuel injector lines were installed in 2023, and the muffler and exhaust hose were recently replaced. The engine is fitted with fresh water cooling and flushed after every use. A fixed three-bladed bronze prop provides propulsion. Tankage includes 37 gallons of fuel, a stainless steel water tank under the vee berth, and a 19-gallon holding tank with y-valve. A 12-gallon hot water tank is plumbed for engine-heated water.

The rig is a keel-stepped mast with bare aluminum spars and stainless steel standing rigging. Main and mizzen carry jiffy reefing on the main; working jibs and a drifter are fitted with a 2012 Harken roller furling system. A new white Sunbrella number-one roller furling genoa was installed in 2022. Original two-speed halyard winches, Barient sheet winches, and a Harken mainsheet traveler aft of the wheel complete the sail handling gear.
