The 1965 Pearson Countess 44 is a classic fiberglass ketch built for serious cruising. The hull is solid throughout with no soft spots, and the boat has received extensive upgrades over decades of careful ownership. A 2006 Yanmar 110-horsepower diesel engine with approximately 200 hours powers the yacht to a cruising speed of 6.5 knots, with an uncluttered engine room offering excellent access. The decks were stripped to fiberglass and finished in Awlgrip, while the deckhouse received epoxy paint and redesigned windows for a cleaner modern profile. Ten portholes were stripped, primed, and repainted.
The three-cabin layout sleeps six and includes one head with a self-draining holding tank system recently installed. The ketch rig is straightforward to sail, featuring a Dutchman furling mainsail system. A large uncluttered cockpit and wide side decks make deck movement comfortable when underway, supported by a bimini top and sail covers. The galley includes a hot water system and shore power inlet. Navigation and safety equipment comprises GPS, VHF, radar, and depthsounder.
Fuel capacity is 110 gallons with 185 gallons of freshwater. An electric bilge pump and manual backup are fitted, along with a solar panel and newer batteries. Additional features include a radar reflector, swimming ladder, and cockpit cushions with table. The hull was professionally vinyl wrapped as part of the upgrade program. This is a capable boat suited to extended cruising passages or long stays at anchor.
