1966 Moody Salar Motorsailer with C/C & Cutter Rig

This 1966 Moody Salar is a 40-foot motorsailer built on a full keel with centerboard and cutter rig. The fiberglass hull is finished in blue with white boottop and green bottom. Between 1999 and 2000, the boat underwent a comprehensive three-year rebuild that renewed all systems, machinery, and interior. A rebuilt Perkins 4.236 diesel of 72 horsepower powers the yacht, delivering cruising speeds of 6 to 6.5 knots with a maximum of 7 to 7.5 knots. The boat carries 150 gallons of fuel, 90 gallons of water, and 35 gallons of holding capacity across dual tanks.

The center cockpit layout provides protected seating with a hard dodger over the pilothouse and overhead hatch, offering excellent visibility and weather protection. Teak decks were installed during the refit, glued without screws. The boat features a Sidepower bow thruster, bronze through-hulls throughout, an Aquadrive shaft system, and a rebuilt rudder. Dinghy davits, double stainless steel lifelines with gates, and full rail systems complete the deck arrangement.

Accommodations include a forward cabin with vee berths and a separate aft stateroom, each with private head and basin, offering complete privacy for two couples. The forward cabin features teak ceilings and inlaid panels; the aft stateroom has single bunks port and starboard. The main salon is finished in African mahogany with a circular settee, custom cabinetry, and bookcases. The spacious galley spans the starboard side with a Force 10 propane stove, oven, and 2018 Seafrost refrigeration. All interior woodwork is mahogany with brass hardware and fittings.

Electrical systems include 12V DC and 120V AC with 2021 AGM batteries, a Fisher Panda 4.5kw generator, and dual battery monitors. Climate control comprises a Cruisair reverse cycle heat and air conditioning unit and an Espar heater. Navigation electronics include a 2024 Garmin radar-GPS, VHF radio with AIS, depthsounder, Robertson AP300X autopilot, and Simrad speed and depth gauge. The cutter rig carries a mainsail with furling boom, genoa on Harken roller furler, yankee, staysail, and self-tacking inner forestay jib. Running and standing rigging was renewed between 2011 and 2012. Ground tackle includes a 35-pound CQR anchor with 300 feet of chain, a Fortress anchor, and a Lofrans windlass.
