1972 Contest CONTEST 33

The 1972 Contest 33 is a classic fiberglass cruising sailboat built in the Netherlands and known for solid construction and seaworthiness. At 32 feet 3 inches overall with a 10-foot 3-inch beam, 5-foot 3-inch draft, and 11,574-pound displacement, she carries an encapsulated fin keel with rudder on skeg and is rigged as a sloop. The half-inch solid fiberglass hull shows no weak spots and has been maintained throughout her 50-year life.

Recent rebuilding and upgrades have brought systems to modern standards. The diesel Volvo Penta D1-30 engine with MS15A-B transmission was professionally installed and runs with just 50 hours, backed by factory warranty through September 2026. All-new off-grid electrical systems include a 600-amp-hour AGM battery bank installed in 2025, charged by a Panasonic 325-watt solar panel and alternator. A complete water system rebuild and brand-new upholstery throughout provide comfortable living space with 6-foot 3-inch headroom.

Navigation and sailing systems are current and professional-grade: B&G Zeus 3S 9-inch chart plotter, Halo 20+ radar, V60B VHF with AIS, SIMRAD TP 32 autopilot, and B&G wind instruments all installed in 2024. The mainsail and 140-percent genoa were serviced by sailmaker in 2025 and set with a Schaefer furler system. Standing rigging was replaced in 2016 with new stainless steel chain-plates added in 2024, and all running rigging is new. An Aries wind vane provides self-steering for long passages.

The boat includes a Highfield 260LT dinghy with 9.9-horsepower Honda outboard, a bimini with 350-watt integrated solar panel, and full stainless steel safety railings. A marine survey was completed in May 2025. Fuel capacity is 29 gallons across two tanks.
