This 1972 Hinckley 48 is a classic sloop built with the yard's signature hand-laid fiberglass hull and balsa-core deck construction. The boat features a lead keel of 10,600 pounds paired with a bronze centerboard, providing excellent performance in varied conditions. Power comes from a Westerbeke 4-108 diesel of 40 horsepower, driving a fixed-pitch propeller through a stainless steel shaft. The hull is finished in vivid red topsides with Granada Gray decks, accented by gold leaf cove stripe and white bootstripe; the bottom received fresh blue paint in 2022.
Accommodations span three cabins with a full-width main salon offering 6 feet 9 inches of headroom. The interior is finished throughout in satin-varnished mahogany with varnished teak and holly sole. The master stateroom aft to port features wide berths port and starboard, with an ensuite head forward to starboard. The forward cabin contains a v-berth with cushions and seat, while the main salon houses a U-shaped port settee and sliding starboard settee that converts to berth space, plus a pilot berth above. A forward head between the main salon and forward cabin completes the layout. The galley to port includes a three-burner Shipmate propane stove with oven, double stainless sink, and 9-cubic-foot refrigeration unit; the navigation station to starboard features a mahogany casework setup with Raymarine electronics including E120 chartplotter, 4kw Radome, and sailing instruments.
Rigging includes a Hinckley mast with Hood Yacht Systems inmast furler, standing rigging upgraded to stainless steel with internal halyards in 1993, and a Harken MKII roller furler. Eight Barient winches provide control across primary, secondary, and specialized functions. Current sails are North Nordac mainsail and 120 percent genoa, both 7.8H FIRM, plus an unused Hood spinnaker. The 12-volt electrical system runs four 6-volt house batteries with 380 amp-hour capacity and dedicated 120-amp alternator, supplemented by a 60-amp alternator for the two-battery start bank. Shore power and a 30-amp Xantrex charger support 110-volt systems.
The boat has been maintained by two experienced owners since completion and kept largely to original specification. A Lewmar V3 windlass with capstan handles ground tackle, dual Barient emergency bilge systems provide redundancy, and the deck is fitted with substantial hardware throughout including boarding gates, stainless pulpits, and custom Hinckley hatch design. The yacht comes with life rafts, safety equipment, tools, spare parts, and various galley and aboard gear.
