1972 Whitcraft housboat

This 50-foot Whitcraft houseboat from 1972 was designed in collaboration with Hatteras to function as a true cruising craft. Its fiberglass hull uses a modified deep-vee design, enabling it to venture beyond the typical river and lake environments that most houseboats of the era inhabited.

The boat is powered by twin Yanmar diesel engines totaling 630 horsepower. Both engines have been rebuilt and run with only 60 hours of operation. A replacement generator—a used Kohler 7.5 kW unit with 250 hours—provides onboard power. The fuel and water tanks were removed, coated with black tar, and reinstalled. New engine gauges were fitted at both the upper and lower helm stations.

Navigation and automation systems have been updated throughout. A Raymarine Axiom chart plotter and radar were installed at both helms, along with a new Raymarine autopilot. An electrically controlled spotlight was also added. Dual air conditioning and heating units maintain cabin comfort—a new 25,000 BTU system alongside an existing 16,000 BTU unit that is three years old. The bow pulpit was rebuilt before installation of new stainless steel anchor windlass, chain, and rode.
