A classic Bill Lapworth design from 1973, the Cal 2-46 is a 46-foot fiberglass sailing yacht built for serious offshore cruising. With only 129 examples constructed, these boats are recognized for their robust construction and seaworthy design. The hull features a traditional long shoal-draft keel paired with a modern spade rudder, combining directional stability with responsive steering. A single 85-horsepower Perkins diesel engine delivers steady cruising at 7 knots with a range of 1,200 miles, while the sailing rig—available as sloop or ketch—is designed for two-person handling.

The deck and cockpit layout prioritize ease of handling and livable space. The midship steering station is well-sheltered with a pedestal wheel and centralized controls. Interior accommodation centers on a large forward cabin, a roomy main salon with optional layouts and generous visibility, and an aft owner's stateroom fully accessible from below. The yacht includes two enclosed heads, a walk-in engine room, hot and cold pressure water, and shower. Burmese teak finishes the interior throughout.

This example has received consistent care and upgrades during its time on the Southern California coast, remaining in either Newport Beach or Marina del Rey since delivery. The hand-laid-up fiberglass construction demonstrates the solid build quality characteristic of the design.
