This 1973 Carter 33 is a classic fiberglass sloop built to exacting standards. The boat measures 33 feet with a 10-foot-11-inch beam and draws particular strength from its well-executed design and solid construction—a model produced in limited numbers and comparable in quality to Sabre, Morgan, and Tartan designs of the era.
The interior combines comfort with practicality. Two cabins accommodate crew, with a V-berth forward and a quarter berth aft, plus two settees with pilot berths in the saloon. The sole throughout is teak and holly. A large teak saloon table with folding leaves provides the centerpiece for the main cabin space, and substantial teak hanging lockers offer storage from the saloon. The galley features a 7.5-cubic-foot icebox and a Kenyon alcohol cooktop with pressurized hot and cold water. A single head with an electric Raritan macerating toilet and pull-out shower completes the accommodations.
Sailing is managed through in-mast furling for the mainsail, roller furling for a choice of two genoas (155 or 135 racing), and a high-performance autopilot below decks—systems that make single-handed operation practical. The Universal diesel engine, installed in 2014 with approximately 652 hours, is supported by a 2-blade folding Maxiprop and runs via a dripless stuffing box. Navigation and helm control center on dual Raymarine Axiom chart plotters (12-inch and 7-inch), two Raymarine i70 multifunction displays, and a Standard Horizon Matrix VHF with integral AIS and GPS. Power comes from dual 125-amp-hour AGM house batteries, solar panels with Victron charge controllers, and a Victron battery charger installed in 2023.
The hull and deck are finished in teak with a fiberglass base. Bottom paint was applied approximately 18 months ago. Two Lewmar 46 winches and two Lewmar 16 winches handle sail trim, supported by a Simpson Lawrence windlass with a newly replaced motor. A bimini, transom shower, and swim ladder round out the boat's equipment.
