1974 Hatteras 42 Convertible

This 1974 Hatteras 42 Convertible is a fiberglass sportfisher built for serious fishing and extended cruising. Twin Cummins 903 diesel engines deliver 690 horsepower, giving the boat a cruising speed of 15 knots and a top speed of 20 knots. Power is supported by a 9-kW Norpro generator. The boat has undergone extensive structural and cosmetic work from 2018 through 2025, including hull and house repainting, redesigned rear rake, updated windows with dark smoke glass, and a reinforced fiberglass hard top on the flybridge.

Navigation and fishing capability are well-equipped. A Furuno NavNet 3D electronics package includes a 6-foot open array radar with 64-mile range, AIS, chart plotter, sounder, and fish finder displayed on dual 12-inch screens. A Simrad autopilot and dual VHF radios (flybridge and salon) complete the suite. The boat carries outriggers with center rigger, rod storage throughout, and deck-mounted cooler stations. A custom double bait tank was added in 2023. Underwater and LED lighting systems illuminate the stern and cockpit areas.

Below deck, the interior combines traditional craftsmanship with modern comfort. The salon features a custom mahogany bar, TV lift cabinet with 40-inch Samsung display, full-size sofa with hidden storage, and rod storage on the ceiling. The galley has granite countertops, a Force 10 gimbaled stove, and new stainless appliances. The single head includes a large custom fiberglass shower with seat and a granite vanity. Two staterooms—a port cabin and V-berth—each sleep two and include storage drawers, magazine racks with USB charging, and cabin fans.

Recent mechanical maintenance includes new injectors on both engines, water pump replacement, fresh water pump replacement, water heater replacement, and new impellers in 2025. All plumbing has been replumbed with PEX, and all electrical wiring was replaced. The hull received a bottom job and anode service in 2021, with monthly maintenance since.
