This 36-foot Custom Matlack Tournament sportfisherman was built by Matlack Yacht Builders, a company formed to compete with Bertram and designed by legendary naval architect Raymond Hunt. Only three hulls were constructed before production ceased due to build costs. The boat rides on a soft-riding deep V hull and features twin 300 hp Cummins 6BTA 5.9L diesel engines installed in 1994.
The layout mirrors modern Viking Billfish designs, with a large open cockpit and cabin featuring drop-down curtains. The cabin sleeps four and includes one head. In 2025, the cockpit deck was replaced with Coosa Board and the entire deck and cockpit area underwent restoration, including a fresh bottom job, new zincs, and hull sides buffed and waxed.
Equipment includes a generator installed in 2021, three Garmin GPS units, two VHF radios, Rupp double spread outriggers with Lee Sr. bases, a tournament fighting chair, and gin pole. The boat has a history of success in Texas billfishing and was previously owned by legendary marlin fisherman Bob Byrd.
