The Downeast 38 is a heavy-displacement ketch built with hand-laid fiberglass, designed for blue-water cruising. Its full keel and traditional lines deliver directional stability and sea-kindliness in rough conditions. Power comes from a Yammer 32 hp diesel engine paired with a 4-blade Max Prop.
Below deck, the interior features teak joinery throughout, creating comfortable living quarters for extended voyages. The boat includes one head and a galley with a Wallas diesel cooktop. Refrigeration is installed.
Navigation and autopilot systems include a Raymarine multi-function chart plotter, Raymarine radar, B&G autopilot, B&G wind/depth/speed instruments, and AIS transceiver. Electrical systems feature solar and wind generation with charge controllers and an isolation transformer. An aluminum fuel tank with access port and viewing window is installed.
The sail plan carries PT Sails in excellent condition: Carol Hasse main, genoa, staysail, and mizzen. The boat is equipped with a hard dodger, removable bimini cover, and custom cockpit combings with back rests. Wallas diesel heater provides cabin warmth.
