The 1976 Richardson 52 Thorfinn is a substantial aluminum-hulled cruiser built in Meaford, Ontario. At 56 feet overall with a 15-foot beam, the boat combines traditional cruising comfort with practical handling features including bow and stern thrusters. Twin Caterpillar 3306 turbo-diesel engines producing 670 horsepower total provide the power, installed in 1991 with approximately 2,025 engine hours. A hydraulic swim platform extending four feet adds usable deck space. Fuel capacity of 1,000 gallons, 600 gallons of fresh water, and substantial waste-water storage support extended cruising.
Three separate staterooms accommodate six people: the master cabin features a queen berth with built-in dresser and en-suite head access, while two additional staterooms each contain twin berths and dressers. Two full heads with vacuum-flush toilets and separate showers serve the accommodations. The galley is well-equipped with a full-size refrigerator-freezer, electric stove, microwave, toaster oven, and abundant counter and pantry storage. The main salon features an expansive L-shaped sofa with dinette, a second sofa, television, and large windows. The fully enclosed bridge sits above with panoramic windows, comfortable seating, and navigational equipment including GPS, chartplotter, and VHF radio.
Recent maintenance has addressed systems throughout the boat: sewer lines replaced, water and waste pump service, wheelhouse windows and roof sealed, electrical wiring upgraded, hydraulic hoses replaced on the crane and swim platform, batteries reconnected and restored, alternator installed, and master head flooring and plumbing renewed. Four air-conditioning units provide climate control. The boat carries a 10-foot dinghy on a hydraulic davit with 4-horsepower outboard motor, and features an electric windlass with two anchors.
