This 1977 Van De Stadt Rebel 42 is a fiberglass blue-water cruiser built for extended ocean passages. The hull measures 42 feet in length with a 10.58-foot beam, providing a solid platform for serious sailing. Power comes from a Perkins 4108 diesel engine producing 50 horsepower, installed during a complete refit in 2011. The engine consumes approximately three-quarters of a gallon of diesel per hour and operates through a Borg Warner V-drive transmission that was serviced and reconditioned. Cruising speed is 7 knots.
The deck is rigged for traditional sailing with an anodized aluminum mast and comprehensive sail inventory: main, light genoa, heavy genoa, working jib, storm jib, spitfire jib, and spinnaker, all with twin spinnaker poles and mast tracks. Heavy-duty stainless steel standing rigging and lifelines were replaced in 2023. Mechanical systems include a Lofrans 1200WT electric windlass, Lewmar 48 self-tailing primary winches, and six Knowsley winches distributed across the cockpit and mast. The steering was converted to hydraulic, and a new compass was fitted.
Recent maintenance includes new batteries and alternator in 2020, a new starting battery in January 2025, new propeller and drive shaft with inner and outer bearings, new LED deck lights in 2023, and a fresh mainsail and cover in 2022. The hull received bottom paint in 2023. The boat features one head and accommodations below deck supporting extended cruising.
