The 1978 Gulfstar 43 MkII is a purpose-built offshore cruiser designed by Vince Lazzara, constructed with a thick fiberglass hull and quality interior and exterior woodwork characteristic of its era. Powered by a modern 50 hp Beta diesel engine, she offers dependable performance in an easily accessible engine room. The ketch rig carries main, genoa, mizzen, cruising chute, and storm jib—all in good condition—and handles single-handed sailing with ease.
Accommodations include two cabins with comfortable berths, two heads with composting toilets and showers, and an airy saloon. The master cabin features a double bed with six opening portlights, screens, a large deck hatch, air conditioning, and substantial storage. A separate V-berth includes a hanging closet, storage under the bed, access to the anchor locker, and its own head with shower and washing machine. The galley is fully equipped with a gimbaled gas oven, two-burner rings, microwave and air fryer combination, Nespresso machine, dual sinks, and a top-loading refrigerator-freezer with ample storage for extended voyages. The navigation station features a large desk with chart storage, Garmin plotter, VHF DSC radio, handheld VHF, and AIS.
Deck systems include a 65 lb Mantus anchor with Maxwell windlass and remote control, stainless steel pushpit and pulpit with Amsteel rigging, teak toe rails, stern shower, and a swim platform with removable ladder. An Archilles 310 aluminum hard-bottom inflatable with 9.8 hp Tohatsu outboard is mounted on a solar arch. The cockpit features teak flooring, a leather-covered steering wheel, dodger and bimini convertible to full enclosure, and helm pod with autopilot controls. Electrical systems comprise 4x 200Ah Victron LiFePo4 batteries, Victron inverter-charger, 1000w solar panels, and a 6000w Lombardini generator. The hull bottom was sanded and treated with epoxy in 2025, with antifoul applied the same year. A water maker, folding propeller with rope cutter, dive compressor, and various water sports equipment are included.
