1978 Seaton Long Ranger Trawler

This 1978 Seaton Long Ranger is a 58-foot fiberglass trawler purpose-built for extended ocean cruising. Designed by Steve Seaton and constructed by Hidden Harbor in Sarasota, Florida, the hull is overbuilt for expedition work with 3-inch fiberglass thickness from keel to waterline. The boat displaces 115,000 pounds and carries 2,100 gallons of fuel, giving it a 3,000-nautical-mile range. Power comes from a single 275-horsepower Caterpillar 3406 diesel engine with approximately 15,000 hours, which cruises comfortably at 7 to 7.5 knots and reaches a maximum of 9.5 knots. Two Northern Lights generators (20-kilowatt and 12-kilowatt) provide shore power and independent charging capability.

The accommodations spread across four cabins with three heads. The main deck features a spacious salon with side walkarounds, a well-equipped galley amidships with Sub-Zero refrigeration and freezer drawers, and a 5-burner glass cooktop. Forward of the galley are two identical bunk cabins with a shared ensuite head. The primary stateroom aft of the salon offers two queen berths, dresser storage, a hanging locker, and a private head with shower. A fourth cabin with two single bunks and ensuite facilities completes the sleeping arrangements. The pilothouse is exceptionally laid out with a raised settee, aft captain's berth, and helm station, with wing doors providing deck access and ventilation.

An extensive refit between 2002 and 2005 in Port Townsend included new plumbing, wiring, through-hull valves, a diesel hydronic heating system, and upgraded electronics. The pilothouse was expanded 3 feet forward with new fiberglass structure and fitted with half-inch tempered glass windows, while salon ports received 1-inch tempered glass. Hull fuel tanks were sandblasted and resealed with epoxy. Westmar hydraulic stabilizer fins were installed. The boat is equipped with a complete electronics suite including Furuno GPS, chart plotter, radar, and AIS; a Sea Recovery watermaker; bow thruster; hydraulic windlass; and a Highfield tender with 30-horsepower outboard. A 50-kilogram Bruce anchor with 600 feet of chain and spare 60-kilogram plow anchor complete the ground tackle.

Recent paint work was completed in 2025. The boat received a fresh coat top to bottom and full maintenance. Oil changes occur every 200 hours. She carries extensive spare parts inventory.
