1978 Spencer 53 Pilothouse

A 1978 Spencer 53 Pilothouse ketch with a fiberglass hull and fin underwater profile. The design accommodates dual operating modes: traditional sailing from the center cockpit or powered cruising from an enclosed pilothouse helm station. The single Isuzu diesel engine produces 70 horsepower and supports efficient long-range operation under power. The boat sleeps four and was originally commissioned as a custom build for extended cruising.

Significant upgrades completed in 2009 include Schattauer furling booms, North Sails, and stainless steel standing rigging. Additional work addressed mechanical and electrical systems, with new port lights installed. The boat has seen light use in recent years and remains ready for cruising.
