1979 Bristol 35.5

The Bristol 35.5 is a Ted Hood design renowned for its seaworthy characteristics. This example is built on the keel model, which provides enhanced stability and a steadier ride than fin-keel versions. The fiberglass hull is finished in Awlgrip with a modified fin keel carrying encapsulated lead ballast and a skeg-hung rudder. A Yamaha 20 hp diesel engine with a dripless shaft seal provides propulsion, paired with a bronze two-bladed propeller.

The accommodations offer practical cruising comfort. Forward, a vee berth with filler cushion converts to a spacious double bed and includes storage lockers and hanging lockers. The head to port features a stainless sink, shower, and hot and cold pressure water. The main salon holds port and starboard settees that pull out as double berths, with extensive cabinetry and shelving. A navigation station aft includes a flip-up table and quarter berth. The galley is conveniently placed to starboard of the companionway with a three-burner gas stove, oven, refrigeration, and pressure water system. Teak and holly sole runs throughout.

The boat carries a comprehensive inventory of systems and equipment. Electrical systems include 12V DC, 110V AC, a Balmar alternator with external regulator, and lithium battery banks. Raymarine instruments provide wind, depth, speed, radar, and autopilot. The rigging and sail plan support shorthanded operation, with a roller-furling headstay, three jibs of varying sizes, and a fully battened mainsail with two reefs and lazy jacks. Ground tackle includes a Danforth 22S anchor, a CQR plow, and over 200 feet of nylon line. A full-sized awning covers the deck aft of the mast.

Significant mechanical and systems work has been completed since 2012, including a 2025 engine overhaul with cylinder head service, replacement of the cutlass bearing and seal, new water heater installation, propeller overhaul, electrical system upgrades with lithium batteries and new alternator, rigging inspection and replacement, and comprehensive rebedding of sail tracks.
