This 1979 CS 36 Traditional is a classic fiberglass racer-cruiser built during the golden era of Canadian sailboat manufacturing. Designed by Raymond Wall, a former chief designer for the British yard Camper & Nicholsons, the boat combines refined European design sensibility with heavy-weather capability. At 36 feet with an 11.5-foot beam, it displaces 15,500 pounds and carries 6,500 pounds of solid lead ballast, delivering a smooth and stable ride in heavy conditions. The fin keel configuration optimizes upwind performance and tracking, while the through-bolted hull-to-deck joint and 3/4-inch solid fiberglass at chainplates reflect uncompromising structural engineering.
Below deck, the yacht offers a traditionally appointed teak interior with accommodations for up to six, including a spacious V-berth with door, convertible dinette, quarterberth, dedicated navigation station, full galley, and wet head with shower. Ultra Suede upholstery and cedar-lined lockers create a practical yet comfortable cruising environment. The galley features a two-burner stove with oven, Sea Frost refrigeration, and a single sink. Fresh teak flooring refinishes the salon, while smart storage solutions run throughout the layout.
The boat has undergone extensive recent upgrades. A Westerbeke 44-horsepower diesel engine replaced the original in 2013 and has approximately 860 hours. A J-Prop feathering propeller, transmission cooler installed in 2022, and recently replaced exhaust and raw water intake hoses support reliable propulsion. Standing rigging is new as of 2015, and chainplates were replaced in 2012. The mainsail was serviced at North Sails in 2024, and the genoa received new Sunbrella in 2024. Harken and Lewmar primary winches, a Harken MK4 furler, and a Forespar whisker pole equip the deck for efficient sailing.
Modern systems include a Garmin 741 XS plotter with radar, autopilot with remote, VHF radio, and newly rewired mast instruments with a new fluxgate compass installed in 2025. A 140-watt solar panel, 315-amp-hour house bank, and 105-amp-hour start bank provide power. Exterior refinishing includes AwlCraft 2000 paint in Stars & Stripes Blue, custom stainless steel portholes, a dodger with Eisenglass windows, bimini, custom stern davits, and rigid stainless steel lifelines. All seacocks were replaced with bronze, the bottom was stripped and sealed with Interprotect 2000, and SR40 ablative paint was applied. A 2022 survey and engine mechanical inspection are available.
