1979 Gulfstar 37’ aft Cockpit Sailboat

This 1979 Gulfstar 37 is a fiberglass sloop built with serious cruising capability and extensive equipment throughout. Two Perkins diesel engines—one 50 hp main engine with a rebuilt Borg Warner Velvet Drive transmission, and a second auxiliary engine—provide reliable power. The boat carries a full suite of sails in good condition: main, jib, and genoa with roller furling, whisker pole, and stack pack.

Navigation and electronics are comprehensive. A Garmin 12-inch chartplotter, radar, Simrad AP 35 autopilot, GPS, and Icom VHF radio form the core systems, supplemented by a depth sounder, wind instruments, and Nema 2000 network connectivity. Power management includes a Balmar Series 7 80-amp alternator, Racor 500 remote fuel filter, four Dyno six-volt house batteries, a Dyno H31 start battery, dual inverters (1000 watt and 400 watt), and a Pronautica 12/40 battery charger. An 80-gallon water tank and 30-gallon fuel tank provide extended range.

The cabin features a two-burner propane stove with oven, Isotherm cold plate ice box, fresh head with 20-gallon holding tank, Dickinson propane BBQ, and a Dickinson solid fuel heater. A Maxwell electric windlass with remote control was installed and tested but never used. The boat carries a 12-volt TV with DVD player and is fitted with davits and an 8'9" Mercury dinghy with a 2 hp Honda four-stroke outboard.

Safety equipment is extensive: halon fire extinguisher in the engine room, portable fire extinguishers, life sling, emergency tiller, manual and automatic bilge pumps, air horn, radar reflector, flare gun with flares, and a large assortment of hull plugs and spare parts. An additional newer Suzuki four-stroke outboard motor with low hours is mounted on a retractable bracket. The boat is Coast Guard documented and inspected by the Coast Guard Auxiliary in 2023.
