The Hughes 3910 is a 40-foot fiberglass sailing yacht built in 1979, known for solid construction and dependable performance under sail. Powered by a 66-horsepower Perkins diesel engine, this boat combines traditional strength with substantial recent upgrades that modernize its systems and extend its cruising capability.
A comprehensive refit beginning in 2015 replaced all standing rigging and chainplates, upgraded all electrical wiring and converted lighting to LED. Three new aluminum fuel tanks (200-gallon total capacity) and new fresh-water tanks were installed alongside hull insulation and new headliners. The 2022 work added a rigid dinghy davit with integrated fold-up swim platform, a dedicated propane locker with new ENO stove, and full canvas enclosure of the cockpit with new Isinglass. Most recent upgrades include a new refrigeration system (2024), a 2000-watt sine-wave inverter (2024), and a hydraulic autopilot (2025).
The two-cabin, two-head layout offers privacy for multiple crew, with the unique feature of direct cockpit access to the aft cabin. The boat is configured for single-handed sailing, making it straightforward to operate independently. A Perkins diesel provides reliable auxiliary power for cruising passages.
