The 1979 Islander 36 is a classic fiberglass sloop built during the model's peak production run. With a deep keel, skeg-hung rudder, and keel-stepped mast, this design delivers stiff performance in the Bay's summer winds while remaining responsive in lighter conditions. The boat cruises at 6 knots and reaches 7.5 knots under power, driven by a single 27-horsepower Yammer diesel.
The interior is spacious and comfortable, laid out for both daysailing and extended cruising. The cockpit is generously proportioned, and the boat has proven itself over decades as a capable offshore cruiser—many examples have crossed to Mexico and participated in the Baja Ha-Ha rally.
The hull has been meticulously maintained throughout its service life. The topsides were Awlgripped, the brightwork and canvas are in good condition, and the exterior presents striking white with a black boot stripe. In 2019, the boat received a complete engine repowering with a new Yammer diesel, which has accumulated minimal running hours. Only two owners have held the boat since launch, with the most recent having maintained it for approximately 35 years.
