1979 Nordic Folkboat

This 1979 Nordic Folkboat was built at Hovmark Shipyard in Thisted, Denmark, one of the last wooden examples from that premier builder. The design is renowned for its seaworthiness and versatility—equally capable for racing, coastal cruising, or ocean passage. At 25 feet with a beam of 7.25 feet, the boat displaces 4,255 pounds and carries 280 square feet of sail area, powered by a 6 hp Mercury outboard added in 2019.

The boat was originally campaigned as a racer, winning the 1984 Danish Championship and Kieler Week in 1984 and 1985. In 2021 and 2022, it underwent comprehensive restoration at Walsteds Baadeværft in Denmark under the direction of noted Folkboat specialist Lars Braestrup. The work included stripping and refinishing all exterior woodwork with twenty coats of two-part varnish on the topsides, new teak and mahogany rails, a fully restored original mast and boom with protective bags, new standing and running rigging, and replacement stainless steel hardware throughout. The decks and cabin top were repainted, and a custom mahogany cabin table was built.

Onboard equipment includes a Garmin chart plotter, Doyle mainsail and jib from 2015, main sail cover, deck and cockpit awning, manual and electric bilge pumps with battery and solar panel, butane galley stove, and a Fortress anchor with 200 feet of rope and chain. The cabin features ultrasuede cushions, and a custom mahogany boat hook and ensign staff with flush socket complete the fit-out. A custom galvanized trailer is included.
