The 1979 Scarab Larry Smith 38 is a legendary racing hull, originally built for the KAAMA Racing Team and engineered by John Connor as an evolution of the Cigarette design. The boat's distinctive 38-foot length and 8-foot beam combine kevlar construction with a reinforced fiberglass deck, delivering the light weight and high-speed capability that made this hull design iconic in offshore powerboating.

Power comes from twin 572 cubic inch fuel-injected engines producing 750 horsepower each, paired with Speedmaster drives. The boat is optimized for a crew of three—a driver, throttleman, and navigator—though two can operate it if needed. Following a comprehensive restoration that recreated components no longer in production, the engines and drivetrain show only 20 hours of run time.

The restoration returned every element to original specifications, with Performance Marine fabricating missing parts to match the boat's racing heritage. The kevlar hull remains true to the original design philosophy that made this platform successful in competitive offshore racing.
