This 1980 Hatteras 42 Long Range Cruiser is a fiberglass trawler built for extended cruising. Twin naturally aspirated Detroit Diesel 4-53 engines, each rated at 280 hp, provide efficient power. The boat cruises at 6.7 knots and reaches 7.8 knots at maximum speed, with a range exceeding 1,000 miles at comfortable cruising pace. An 8 kW generator supplies onboard power, and an Highfield tender with a Suzuki 4-stroke 20 hp outboard is included.
The layout comprises two staterooms and two heads. The galley and main living spaces are equipped with modern conveniences including a new energy-efficient stainless-steel refrigerator, a 6-gallon water heater, and a Hurricane diesel hydronic heating system with five zones and optional electric AC elements. Fresh water and waste systems have been serviced and updated.
Recent work reflects substantial investment in systems and safety. The propane system was upgraded to ABYC standards with electronic shutoffs; batteries were replaced and upgraded in 2022 with an automated watering system added in 2023; solar capacity was expanded to 1060 watts for house batteries and 180 watts for starting batteries with new controllers. Navigation electronics include a Garmin 9-inch chart plotter with radar and AIS overlay, Standard Horizon VHF with AIS, and a Garmin depth sounder on an NMEA-2000 network, plus Starlink and automatic AIS tracking. The bottom received new ablative paint and rudder service in October 2024; the starboard transmission and alternator were refurbished in 2022. Non-skid deck paint was applied in 2025. An 85 lb Mantus II anchor with chain completes the ground tackle.
