This 1980 Island Trader 37 is a William Garden design built in Taiwan with a full keel and classic cruising hull. Originally rigged as a ketch, the boat was converted to a sloop configuration by removing the mizzen mast. The fiberglass hull measures 36.5 feet with a 12-foot beam and is powered by a Beta 38-horsepower diesel engine installed in 2017 with just 146 hours of operation. Maximum speed is 8 knots, with typical cruising around 6 knots.
The single cabin accommodates one stateroom and one head. Below decks, the galley features a Seaward HilleRange two-burner propane stove with oven, an Isotherm refrigerator-freezer combo, and a six-gallon electric hot water heater. A Jabsco electric marine head serves the sole head compartment. Much of the original cabin woodwork has been retained, while new LED lighting has been installed throughout. Custom interior cushions complete the sleeping and living areas.
A comprehensive renovation was executed primarily in 2017 and ongoing through 2025. The deck received new fiberglass cloth core in place of original teak, with all hardware removed and re-bedded. New stainless steel bow and stern pulpits, bronze cabin handrails, and bronze opening portlights were fitted. The rig was rebuilt with an extended aluminum mast, new standing rigging in 1x19 stainless steel, a Tides Marine track system, and custom sails including a fully battened main from Port Townsend Sails and a 125% genoa from Precision Sails. A Lewmar manual windlass handles ground tackle: a 48-pound Delta anchor with 100 feet of 5/8-inch chain and 300 feet of 5/8-inch line.
Electronics include a Garmin multifunction display with GPS and sounder, Tacktick wind and speed display, Standard Horizon VHF radio with AIS, and a Ritchie compass. Power systems feature two 225-amp hour 8D gel house batteries and a 2000-watt Magnum Energy inverter-charger. Safety equipment includes an Avon six-person life raft in soft pack and a life sling retrieval system. The boat is equipped with a nine-foot RIB tender and 2018 Mercury four-stroke outboard. Bottom paint was applied in September 2025.
