This 1980 Shannon 38 Ketch is a fiberglass ketch with solid construction and the classic lines the Shannon design is known for. The hull received a full Awlgrip refinish in 2017 with white topsides, chocolate boot stripe, and red antifouling. The deck is cored fiberglass with Awlgrip nonskid, and teak trim and caprails have been maintained in varnish throughout. The hull-to-deck joint was resealed during that 2017 refit. Aluminum masts are keel-stepped for the main and deck-stepped for the mizzen, with rod rigging and stainless steel chainplates replaced during recent work. The rig carries a 2009 main and mizzen, a hank-on staysail, and a 2014 roller-furling genoa.
Below deck, the interior is traditionally finished in teak with a varnished teak and holly sole and a laminate headliner installed in 2003. The forward cabin has a vee berth with filler. Amidships is a main cabin with a convertible double berth to starboard and single berth to port, along with a large teak dining table. To port aft is a full navigation station with additional storage. The head compartment features a manual Jabsco head, vanity, and sink. A U-shaped galley to starboard includes a Hillerange three-burner LPG stove with oven, Nova Kool 12V refrigeration, and dual stainless steel sinks with foot pump. A Force 10 LPG heater serves the cabin.
The Perkins 4108 diesel was rebuilt in 2008 and shows 4428 hours; the propeller is polished and zincs have been renewed, with new Racor fuel filters installed. Tankage includes 45 gallons of fuel, 120 gallons of fresh water in two stainless steel tanks, and a 20-gallon holding tank. The 2024 electrical system features four AGM batteries (three house, one engine start), a 115-watt flexible solar panel on the dodger, a Victron solar controller, an inverter, and battery chargers. Electronics include an Icom M710 HF SSB transceiver with antenna tuner, Icom VHF with AIS, Raymarine Axiom 9-inch radar with autopilot, and Raymarine instruments for wind, depth, speed, and temperature.
An 8-foot Fatty Knees fiberglass sailing dinghy with rig and oars is included. The ground tackle comprises a 45-pound CQR with 150 feet of high-tensile chain and Samson rode (both new in 2018), plus a Danforth with 90 feet of chain and 150 feet of rode. A manual Sea Tiger windlass handles anchoring. Safety and comfort gear includes an EPIRB, lifesling, fire extinguishers, fenders, dock lines, and closed-cell cockpit cushions
