1981 Little Harbor custom sailboat

Pericus is a 62-foot Little Harbor custom sailing yacht, designed by Ted Hood and built in 1981. The fiberglass hull features hand-laminated AIREX core sandwich construction with solid glass lamination at stress points. The deck combines teak over fiberglass with balsa core sandwich construction. The cabin house and cockpit are finished in Matterhorn White with varnished teak trim. Twin Perkins 6-354 diesel engines, each producing 135 horsepower, drive 24-inch by 18-inch feathering propellers through counter-rotating Borg Warner gear boxes, enabling a cruising speed of 8 knots.

The interior showcases light-colored joinery throughout, extensively trimmed in high-gloss teak. The main salon features an L-shaped settee and versatile seating, with numerous hatches and ports providing natural light and ventilation. The well-equipped galley includes a four-burner Force 10 stove with oven and broiler, a Litton microwave, and separate refrigerator and freezer compartments. The accommodations comprise four cabins with four heads: an owner's aft stateroom with an enlarged double berth and private head with separate shower, plus three guest staterooms forward, each with its own head.

The rig employs a Hood Stowaway mast with rod rigging throughout and hydraulic backstay and vang systems. The sail inventory includes working sails built by North Sails—main, genoa, staysail, and trysail—along with a spinnaker, MPS, and storm staysail. Winches are predominantly Barient self-tailing models, supplemented by electric options for primary sheets. The electrical system is comprehensive, featuring a Westerbeke 8 kilowatt generator, twelve 8D deep-cycle batteries arranged for 12V and 24V distribution, and multiple alternators enabling cross-charging between engines.

Navigation and safety systems include an ICOM M120 VHF, ICOM 720A SSB with automatic tuner, and a Garmin GPS chart plotter visible from the helm. Ground tackle comprises a Danforth H 60 and 60 Plough anchors with 300 feet of 3/8-inch high-tensile chain and rode, deployed via an Ideal Vertical Windlass. Additional equipment includes a 600-gallon-per-day Sea Recovery water maker, dual Switlik 8-man life rafts, multiple bilge and freshwater pumps, and full air conditioning via five Marine Air digital reverse-cycle units.
