Hull number one of just 36 Swan 51s built, 'Barracuda' is a 1981 Nautor Swan designed by Germán Frers. This fiberglass sailing yacht measures 51 feet in length with a 14.73-foot beam and is powered by a Volvo diesel engine of 73.76 horsepower. The yacht won the Swan World Cup in 1982, establishing her reputation as a high-performance ocean-going cruiser with timeless design and build quality.
A comprehensive 2012 full refit transformed the yacht with a new teak deck, Awlgrip paint, new Harken furlers and mainsail track, fresh Dacron mainsail and genoa, electric toilets, Webasto reversible air-conditioning, and a full suite of Furuno electronics. The refit also added a bespoke OPACMARE hydraulic gangway with remote control, LED night lighting, and a distinctive Lewmar coffee grinder system connected to two 65-size winches—an upgrade unique to this yacht among all Swan 51s. Additional high-performance elements include a carbon spinnaker pole, carbon steering wheel, and Harken mainsail track and car system.
Subsequent upgrades through 2017 include a new Volvo D2-75 engine with dual alternators, new rod rigging, new engine transmission shaft with seal, and a fully re-varnished interior with new teak flooring and new nappa leather upholstery in the saloon. Running rigging was replaced with Kevlar, deck hatches upgraded to sunshades with blinds, and a new Raytheon autopilot motor installed. The rudder and steering system were dismantled, inspected, and rebuilt with replaced parts. Additional equipment includes a Glomex active GSM antenna system for offshore communication, two SEA SAFE life rafts, retractable mooring cleats, and protective covers for winches and instrumentation.
