1981 Pearson Flyer 30

The Pearson Flyer 30 is a 1981 racing-oriented sailboat built to a Bill Shaw design, known for speed and responsiveness. At just over 30 feet with a beam of 11 feet and displacement of 6,135 pounds, the boat features a keel-stepped aluminum mast and fractional 7/8 rig optimized for single-handed sailing. All lines lead aft to an eight-foot cockpit. The lead ballast totals 2,700 pounds, and draft is 5 feet 9 inches.

The boat's propulsion has been extensively modified. The original diesel inboard was removed. In its place is a Motenergy ME1004 brushed electric motor running on a 48-volt system with a Sevcon Millipak 4Q controller and Optima marine battery bank. A Mercury 8 HP FourStroke outboard is mounted on the transom as auxiliary power and can be tilted up to reduce drag while sailing.

The boat also includes advanced charging and power management components for a multi-source renewable energy system. These comprise MPPT charge controllers for solar and wind applications, a dump load resistor system to manage excess power, three-phase rectifiers for AC-to-DC conversion, and braking switches. This is a project boat requiring completion and commissioning of its custom systems. The fiberglass hull is intact, and the boat is presented in as-is condition.
