The 1981 Sea Ranger 47 Pilothouse is a raised pilothouse trawler built on a solid fiberglass semi-displacement hull. Twin 165-horsepower Volvo diesel engines power the boat to a cruising speed of 7 knots, with a 10-knot maximum. The narrow beam and full-length keel support safe, economical cruising in a range of conditions. The enclosed pilothouse design offers protected helm operation and excellent all-weather capability, features that have drawn increasing interest among cruisers in both northern and warmer climates.
Below deck, the yacht accommodates three staterooms. The full-width midships master stateroom includes a walkaround berth. The forward guest cabin has upper and lower bunks, while a second guest cabin in the bow features an offset double berth to port. Two heads serve the interior—the main head includes a shower stall; the forward head has a marine toilet and vanity. The saloon features leather seating, varnished wood flooring, and a galley forward to port fitted with a full-size refrigerator, microwave, conventional oven, stovetop, and substantial storage. A stairway to starboard provides access to the raised pilothouse, which offers centerline helm placement and both port and starboard entry doors to the side decks. A bench seat aft in the pilothouse doubles as additional berth or passenger seating.
The flybridge, accessed by ladder from the cockpit, features an elevated helm with full visibility and extensive aft space. Two stainless Bimini frames are fitted to the bridge structure—one at the helm and one providing partial coverage of the aft section—though canvas is not currently attached. A radar arch sits on the bridge. The aft deck area is spacious and includes an 800 to 900-pound dinghy davit.
The boat has undergone continuous updates. Major work includes new bottom paint and blister repair in 2021, both engine shafts and cutlass bearings replaced, new bow and stern thrusters installed, and new house batteries in 2025. Exhaust elbows, transmission oil coolers, engine circulation pumps, hydraulic steering and throttle systems, and fire safety equipment have all been renewed in recent years. The main head was replaced and sanitation hose throughout the boat has been renewed. Exterior topsides require painting, brightwork needs renewal, and the Bimini canvas requires replacement.
