1981 Trident Marine Challenger 35

The Trident Marine Challenger 35 is a proven bluewater cruiser designed by Angus Primrose and built with a solid fiberglass hull. At 35 feet long with a 10.6-foot beam, this yacht features a long encapsulated keel and keel-hung rudder, delivering the stability and directional control needed for extended ocean passages. A Volvo Penta MD2030-D diesel engine produces 30 horsepower, cruising at 5 knots with fuel consumption of 1.8 liters per hour. The yacht has completed a circumnavigation and crossed the Atlantic multiple times, demonstrating reliable offshore capability.

The interior provides accommodation for five to six people across one cabin with two double berths and a convertible saloon berth. Headroom in the saloon reaches 1.8 meters. A Force 10 two-burner stove with oven and grill sits to starboard, along with 12-volt refrigeration. A manual seawater-flush toilet and holding tank complete the head facilities.

Navigation and communication systems are comprehensive. Raymarine electronics include a ST60+ wind and depth display, Element 12S chartplotter, Quantum Q24W radar installed in 2022, and ST4000 MkII autopilot with EV-1 remote. VHF and SSB radios provide long-range communication, supplemented by Starlink and Iridium Go. Three house batteries of 105Ah each were replaced in 2023, paired with 250 watts of solar panels and a Victron 375-watt inverter.

The sail plan includes two mainsails, two genoas, a working jib, symmetrical spinnaker, and storm jib, all serviceable. Standing rigging dates to 2011, and running rigging is five years old. Ground tackle consists of a 15-kilogram Rocna anchor with 35 meters of stainless chain and 40 meters of rope, plus a spare CQR. A Lofrans windlass handles ground tackle, and a Hydrovane self-steering vane provides passive steering. Recent upgrades include new bimini and sprayhood in 2023, radar and chartplotter in 2022, and new safety equipment. A Force 4 tender with 3.3-horsepower Mercury outboard and Katadyn watermaker complete the inventory.
