1982 J Boats J/30

This 1982 J/30 is a 30-foot fiberglass racer-cruiser built for serious competition and family passage-making alike. The boat features a Yanmar 15 hp diesel engine and carries dual sail inventories—North Sails racing wardrobe in high-performance Aramid and a complete cruising suit in Dacron and Kevlar, including two cruising spinnakers with sock.

Major upgrades since 2020 have modernized the boat systematically. The keel was templated to a proven racing shape and faired in 2023. The bottom received fairing and barrier coating in 2021. Standing rigging was renewed in stages between 2020 and 2022, with a professional inspection completed in 2022. Running rigging has been progressively replaced through 2024. The propulsion system was comprehensively rebuilt in 2021 with a new prop shaft, coupling, cutlass bearing, and stuffing box; engine hoses and battery systems were refreshed in 2020 and engine work continued into 2025.

Electronics center on a B&G platform: Vulcan 7R chartplotter, wireless wind pack, integrated autopilot, dual mast displays, and data logging with Wi-Fi gateway. The rudder was rebuilt and sealed in 2021. Deck hardware includes six winches across three sizes, spinnaker pole, and anchor with chain and rode. Safety equipment covers manual and electric bilge pumps, life sling, fire extinguishers, and flares.

The boat has logged significant racing success in distance and fleet competition while also serving extended family cruising seasons in local waters.
