This 1982 Nauticat 38 is a full-keel ketch built for serious offshore cruising. Her solid fiberglass construction and proven hull design combine with a Ford-Lehman 90 hp diesel engine and powerful ketch rig to deliver both reliability and sailing versatility. The boat features a self-tacking jib, three new sails delivered in 2024, and six self-tailing winches installed in 2022. A Maxprop 22" feathering prop and dripless shaft seal complete the propulsion package.
Below deck, the layout offers two private cabins and two heads arranged around a functional galley and bright salon with pilothouse windows. The galley includes double stainless sink, oven and stove combo, microwave, and dedicated filtered drinking water with UV sterilization and carbon filtration. A watermaker produces 40 gallons per hour, plumbed to the primary water tank.
Power systems have been substantially upgraded to support extended cruising independence. A 400W solar array with Victron charge controller feeds five Firefly Carbon Foam house batteries totaling 600Ah, paired with a Victron 3000W inverter/charger and battery monitor all installed in 2021. A 3.5kW diesel generator provides backup power, supported by a bidirectional fuel transfer system with integral filtration added in 2022.
Navigation and safety equipment is comprehensive and modern: Raymarine 12" chartplotter with Quantum Radar, hydraulic autopilot with wireless remote, wind instruments, depth and speed sensors, and VHF radio. Additional recent additions include a Mantus 65 lb anchor with 200 feet of 3/8" chain (2021), diesel cabin heat (2022), and a 10-foot RIB tender with new 5hp outboard (2024).
