1983 Custom Trawler

This 30-foot custom trawler was designed and built for coastal cruising, combining the seaworthiness of a sailboat hull with the practicality of a single-engine trawler. Built in 1983 at Martha's Vineyard Boatyard, it features a Westerbeke W-58 diesel engine rated at 58 horsepower, delivering fuel-efficient operation at cruising speeds around 6 knots. The shallow 3'9" draft makes it well-suited to coastal exploration. A mainsail and jib are aboard for auxiliary propulsion when desired.

The pilothouse offers protection and wide visibility, creating a comfortable command center in any weather. Below, the accommodation layout prioritizes simplicity and ease of maintenance for extended cruising. The stateroom features long, comfortable berths positioned for sleeping, napping, and reading. Adjacent spaces include a vacuum-flush toilet and hot shower, designed to serve a couple or three persons comfortably.

Engine access is straightforward—a large panel in the pilothouse sole, just aft of the galley steps, lifts to reveal the Westerbeke and its systems. The overall design emphasizes low-maintenance cruising, with all systems arranged for straightforward operation and service.
