1983 DeFever 49 Raised Pilothouse

The 1983 DeFever 49 Raised Pilothouse is a full-displacement fiberglass trawler designed for long-range cruising. Built around classic Arthur DeFever principles, it combines robust construction with a proven hull form known for stability and smooth motion at sea. Twin Ford Lehman 120 hp diesel engines deliver reliable power for cruising speeds around 7–8 knots. The boat spans 49 feet in length with a 15.67-foot beam, providing substantial accommodation and seaworthiness.

The Plan B layout offers five sleeping berths, making it suitable for family cruising or extended voyages. A raised pilothouse provides good visibility and comfort underway, while a Portuguese flybridge adds outdoor living space. The boat accommodates the needs of those planning extended passages or coastal exploration.

Recent upgrades and maintenance reflect owner investment. Salon windows were replaced in 2001. A custom radar mast and deck access were added in 2018. Navigation equipment was updated in 2023 with a Garmin GPSmap 5212 and autopilot. All hydraulic hoses and fittings have been replaced. The bow and boat deck were fiberglassed with non-skid paint. Engine maintenance has included fluid changes every 200 hours, Borg Warner transmission rebuilds, and shaft and shaft log replacement.
