This 1983 Grover 26 is a classic downeast design built from hand-laid fiberglass. The boat's flat-bottom hull was designed for practical beaching and shallow-water operation, and sits on a 9.5-foot beam. Power comes from a freshly serviced Volvo Penta diesel engine rated at 124 horsepower, which cruises efficiently at 14 knots while consuming approximately 4 gallons per hour. Twin 30-gallon fuel tanks provide range for extended trips.
Below, the boat accommodates two people with a portable toilet. The cabin includes a teak bench seat with cushions on deck. Navigation and fishing electronics consist of Garmin radar and a sonar fish finder. Additional equipment includes outriggers, a spare tiller for emergency steering, and a chrome bow anchor.
The hull was constructed using ten layers of hand-laid fiberglass, following a design concept based on the Verity Skiff. This build method and design philosophy have made Grover boats respected workhorses throughout the East Coast boating community. Approximately 80 Grover boats were manufactured between 1976 and 1987, establishing a small but enduring class of seaworthy cruisers.
