1983 Southern Ocean 62 Centreboard Ketch

A 1983 Southern Ocean 62 Centreboard Ketch built at the legendary Southern Ocean Shipyard in Poole, this fiberglass ketch represents a later development of the shipyard's successful Ocean series. The design carries hull lines by Van De Stadt and is configured as a centreboard variant, offering variable draft between 2.00 and 3.00 metres via hydraulic system. The ketch rig features electric furling on the yankee and staysail, with a Lewmar electric halyard winch, spinnaker, and gennaker completing the sail plan. Pale blue topsides and teak laid side decks and cockpit provide traditional aesthetic character.

The yacht accommodates four cabins and three heads, with an aft stateroom and capacity for up to 12 berths. Interior joinery is mahogany throughout. Propulsion comes from a Ford Sabre 120 hp diesel engine fitted with a 3-bladed MaxProp. Two generators supply onboard power, while systems include a watermaker, reverse-cycle air-conditioning, hot water heating, electric heads, and holding tanks. Raymarine electronics encompass plotters and radar for navigation.

The boat was refitted in 2002 at OMI AB in Sweden, bringing systems and equipment to updated standards. A further extensive refit in 2017 in Southampton included new sails and standing and running rigging. Subsequent upgrades through 2018 and 2019 added a bow thruster and solar panels. Tender davits support a 3.50-metre AB tender with outboard motors for independent exploration.
